Uca chlorophthalmus

Uca chlorophthalmus

Name:

“Red Bean” Fiddler Crab

Physical Features:

Thick-legged fiddler crabs are nick-named as “red bean” fiddler crabs because they have red shells and claws. Yet some have dark stripes on their sides. Some others have black-white or black-blue stripes on their backs.

Living Habits:

Thick-legged fiddler crabs are timid. They stay in their caves for a long time if they feel it is dangerous outside. Even when they are out, they are on the alert. Most of them live under mangrove trees or in moist beaches made of eroded oyster shells.
