Uca borealis

招潮蟹
【Uca borealis 】

Name: Northern Calling Fiddler Crab

Physical Features: Characterized by their bright yellow claws, the northern calling fiddler crabs are also called the “yellow-claw fiddler crabs. Because in the middle of each claw there is an arch-shaped dent, they are also called “dented-finger fiddler crabs.” The females have small, grayish claws. Both males and females have either earth-colored or grey backs.

Living Habits: Male northern calling fiddler crabs like to wave their claws vertically. If they are really agitated, they would even lift up their bodies. They mainly live in wide open mud beaches or by riverbanks right above the sub-tidal line. Sometimes they are found among reef rocks or pebbles.
