Herons have white central feathers and decorative black side feathers on their heads. On their long necks are some circles of black thin feathers. On their backs are also decorative grey feathers. Their beaks and legs are yellow-brown. They can easily be spotted in the sky, because their grey stomaches and pitch black wings are visually impressive. Herons like to make high-pitched sounds when they fly. In Taiwan, they are found in salt fields, swamps, river outlets and sandbars. They mingle with great egrets, too.
