Mudskipper

彈塗魚
So far, three types of mudskippers have been found in Taiwan. Mudskippers are famous for their protruding eyes. This is because they have to watch out for predators attacking from above. Mudskippers are quick to escape.

Whenever they sense something’s wrong, they swiftly go back to their caves or jump away. The fish are also characterized by their air-breathing skin. When little water is left in their habitat, they would maneuver to a more watery place with their fins and lie down on their sides, trying to get more water. When they fight for new territories, they would also use their pectoral fins to jump on one another. For their agility, mudskippers are called “the muddy monkeys” in Taiwan.

P.s. Big mudskippers are called “the fancy jumpers.”
