Kitchen-garden purslane uses its leaves to store water just like a cactus does. The leaves are protected by a layer of wax to avoid losing water or too much sunshine from coming in. It is one of the few plants that grow in extremely salted and dry lands. Kitchen-garden purslane is a great protective plant. People grow them by fish ponds, water channels, salt fields and even coastal roads. Sometimes it is found near beef wood trees, too. Its flowers are tiny and lovely. Each flower comes with five petals.
